The Last Bookstore in Los Angeles is known for its unique style and artsy feel. The bookstore recently moved to 5th and Spring, where they redecorated, making this bookstore more than a place to buy books. My Summer reading list started with A Wild Sheep Chase by Murakami, but once I breezed through that masterpiece in three days, I went looking for more. The Last Bookstore had it. I picked up a Vonnegut book I never finished (Timequake) and a beach-read, The Egyptologist, which I was drawn to by its cover.
Overall, the Last Bookstore is an artsy, cozy place with chairs to sit and read. The decor is amazing from the moment you walk into the lobby--where one-dollar books are stacked in front of a cubic mural--to the cashier's desk--which is made out of old text books (photos after the jump). The selection doesn't include everything, but it is enough to keep you busy this Summer with some cash in your pocket. My two books cost $4.00 each and aren't in bad condition. My husband also picked up a Robert Crumb collection that was originally priced at $35.99 for a mere $8.00. That book is in perfect condition.
