Hawaiian Funk
If you haven't haven't heard of Hawaiian funk, I suggest you spend a couple hours browsing one of the only legit blogs about Hawaiian music, http://www.alohagotsoul.com/. The song above is by Babadu, called "All I've got to Give." It's one of my favorites to put on after listening to some Liz Damon and Kalapana (songs after the jump). Enjoy this 1970's music on a lazy saturday.
Liz Damon's "Me Japanese Boy (I Love You)"
Liz Damon's "It's 1900 Yesterday"
Liz Damon is one of my favorite Hawaiian artists from the 70's. (Note: Please don't tell me that "Me Japanese Boy" is racist; I've heard it all before. Damon is part Japanese herself and this is a very common song within the Japanese-Hawaiian community.)
I wanted to do a whole post on Kalapana, but that will come later. For now, here's my favorites:
Kalapana "Black Sand"
Kalapana "The Hurt"
If you don't know this song already, you must be sleeping.
